Out and about...

The nearest airport to the Chestnut Barn is Perugia in Umbria, approx 55 miles drive away, this is serviced by Ryanair from London Stansted. There is also Bologna Airport which is approx 2 hrs, Pisa 2.5hrs and Florence 2hrs. The rail links are good from Pisa and some guests often use the shuttle train or bus to Florence, and take the train to Arezzo. The barn is approximately 45 minutes drive. There is an Avis car rental office opposite the station, but reservations should be made well in advance as it only stocks a small number of cars. There are many beautiful hilltop towns and villages to visit near the barn as well as the Sanctuary of La Verna where St Francis was said to receive the stigmata. It is a very special place set high amongst beech woods and one that our guests return to upon each visit.

If its shopping you want there are some fabulous designer shopping outlets where you can pick up some great bargains. You will find an information file at the barn detailing all the local places of interest, restaurants, shops and walks for you to enjoy during your stay.

Caprese Michelangelo itself, as well as the museum dedicated to Michelangelo, has a number of amenities including 4 restaurants, a pizzeria /bar which also does takeaway and great coffee and pastries. It is the perfect place to watch the world go by and immerse yourself within the local community. At weekends during the summer months they have live music and dancing as well as theme nights, it is well worth a visit!

There is also a butcher Pharmacy, 2 Cashpoints , Doctors surgery, Post office, Newspaper shop. At Lama (2km) away there is a mini market which has a wide range of fresh and frozen food products. A little further at Manzi there is a deli where you can also buy homemade ready to cook pasta as well as some fabulous desserts and cakes. There is a self serve fuel station which is available 24 hours. The nearest supermarket and town can be found at Pieve Santo Stefano approx 20 minutes drive from the barn or alternatively 40 minutes away,there is Sansepolcro,the next biggest town to Arezzo.
